The speaking part "Presenting a Topic" is an important task in the Goethe B1 exam format. Here, candidates demonstrate their ability to give a short, coherent presentation on a familiar everyday or personal interest topic. The goal is to show the ability to communicate information in a structured and understandable way and to express a clear opinion.
Participants receive a topic on which they can prepare briefly. Afterwards, they present the topic freely in their own words for about one to two minutes. The presentation should be logically structured and explain the important aspects clearly. Often, a short follow-up question from the examiner follows, which must be answered.
The topics relate to everyday situations and personal experiences, such as:
The evaluation is based on several criteria:
Many candidates report feeling more confident through regular practice. “I prepared different topics and practiced with friends, which gave me a lot of confidence,” says Laura from Hamburg. Daniel from Munich also emphasizes: “It helps to use simple sentences and not speak too fast.”
Experienced language trainer Olena Bazalukova explains: “When presenting a topic in Goethe B1, perfect grammar is not decisive, but a clear structure, understandable language, and a convincing presentation. Those who practice regularly with realistic topics and master typical phrases will handle this task with ease.”
In summary, the exam part “Presenting a Topic” offers an excellent opportunity to demonstrate language competence in an authentic context. Targeted training significantly increases confidence and expressive ability.

Elena Spiridonova: „Very practical and clearly structured website interface. All necessary information is available.“
Sergiy Shakhtyor: „Hello everyone! I recommend this website for preparing for the German exam. There is a lot of useful information here, everything is well organized, and the best part – incorrect answers are explained, which really helps with learning. It would be great if the developers also created an app for this website!“
