The Goethe B2 exam is an internationally recognized language certificate for the German language at an advanced level. It assesses whether participants are able to express themselves clearly, structurally, and in a differentiated manner in various everyday situations as well as in professional and educational settings. The exam follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and serves as official proof of sufficient German language skills at the B2 level.
The exam is developed by the Goethe-Institut and offered worldwide in cooperation with partner institutions. The Goethe-Institut is a renowned German cultural organization with decades of experience in language education and certification.
This exam is relevant for many target groups:
Passing this exam opens up many opportunities. It is often accepted as an entry requirement for German-language degree programs and vocational training and can be helpful for naturalization procedures or the recognition of foreign qualifications in Germany.
The Goethe B2 exam consists of four parts:
The tasks reflect authentic communication situations and assess whether candidates can respond appropriately, coherently, and correctly in German.
While the B1 exam focuses on simple sentence structures and basic vocabulary, the B2 level requires significantly more linguistic precision, the ability to argue, and independent language use. Texts are longer, topics more complex, and vocabulary must be used appropriately. Both written and spoken expression are assessed much more strictly at the B2 level.
Each part of the exam is assessed individually. To pass the exam as a whole, at least 60 out of 100 points must be achieved. The evaluation is based on standardized criteria valid worldwide. Results are provided in a detailed breakdown, making strengths and weaknesses clearly identifiable.
Olena, the founder of this platform, has been supporting learners around the world for many years on their path to passing the Goethe B2 exam. She works closely with teachers and examiners to develop targeted exercises that not only reflect the exam format but also consider the examiners’ perspective.
"Many candidates don't fail because of grammar but because of poor answer structure and missing expressions," says Olena. "That's why we focus on typical exam situations and explain all solutions in an understandable way."
Language lecturer Linda Frey recommends focusing on text types that frequently appear in the exam: "Those who regularly practice letters, comments, or summaries will handle the tasks much better."
Participants also report their experiences: "Thanks to the practice platform, I knew exactly what to expect," writes Alex from Zurich. And Maryam from Hamburg says: "The model answers and step-by-step explanations especially helped me understand my mistakes."
