The Goethe A2 exam is an internationally recognized language certificate for German at the elementary level. It assesses whether participants can understand simple sentences and respond appropriately in familiar situations. The exam follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and serves as official proof of basic German skills.
The exam is developed by the Goethe-Institut and offered worldwide in cooperation with certified partner institutions. The Goethe-Institut is a well-established organization for the promotion of the German language, with decades of experience in designing standardized language exams.
This exam is suitable for a wide range of candidates:
The A2 certificate demonstrates the ability to communicate in simple everyday situations. It is often required by authorities, educational institutions, or employers and may be necessary to move on to the B1 level or for further qualification steps.
The Goethe A2 exam consists of the following parts:
The tasks are based on realistic everyday situations, such as writing emails, holding short conversations, or understanding simple information.
Compared to the A1 exam, A2 requires more independence in dealing with everyday language. Candidates are expected to understand short texts and conversations more confidently and to formulate simple, connected sentences. The oral part demands greater interaction and coherence in responses.
Each exam section is assessed individually. To pass the exam, candidates must achieve at least 60 out of 100 points. The evaluation is based on standardized criteria that apply worldwide. Results are provided in detail, making it easier to recognize strengths and weaknesses.
Olena, the founder of our learning platform, has been supporting learners on their path to passing the A2 exam for years. She collaborates closely with native-speaking teachers and experienced examiners from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The exercises are tailored to real exam situations.
“Many learners struggle not with grammar but with writing and speaking tasks,” says Olena. “That’s why we focus on interactive exercises that reflect the actual test structure and provide step-by-step explanations and examples.”
Language instructor Stefan Berg advises starting early: “Consistent practice and a clear learning structure help reduce test anxiety.”
Test takers also share positive feedback: “The online platform helped me understand exactly what to expect,” says Samira from Cologne. Lukas from Prague adds: “The detailed examples and guided tasks were especially helpful in improving my confidence.”

Anna Chin: „Hello, from August to October I prepared for the B1 exam with Olena. As a result, I passed the exam and received my B1 certificate. I would like to say that the training with Olena gave me more knowledge than the courses, because during those months my listening, reading, and writing skills improved noticeably. Speaking, of course, depends on vocabulary, but we practiced dialogues and naturally spoke more together as well.“
Lyudmila Blyashenko: „Olena, I sincerely want to thank you for helping me prepare for the B1 exam. In difficult times, you became my best assistant and German teacher — it was a joy to learn! Thanks to you, I had a clear vision of myself, well-prepared for both the oral and written parts of the B1 exam ❤️. Your lessons were the most productive! The website offers many tasks that make passing the exam much easier.“
Abood: „The wobsite is very good and useful. The important thing in this site is alot of questions that are in it came actually in the original B2 exsam.“
