The DTZ A2 oral exam is a component of the German Test for Immigrants that evaluates language skills at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It is designed to assess whether participants can engage in simple conversations on familiar everyday topics.
The DTZ test is conducted by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) in cooperation with licensed testing centers. On-site organization is handled by authorized institutions such as language schools or integration centers accredited to administer the exam.
The DTZ A2 Speaking Exam is aimed especially at migrants participating in an integration course or those who need to prove their A2-level German skills for a residence permit, employment, or school graduation.
The goal is to demonstrate that you can communicate in everyday situations in German—for example, while shopping, talking to neighbors, or at work.
The DTZ A2 oral exam consists of three parts and lasts about 15 minutes (plus preparation time):
At the A2 level, simple phrases are sufficient for communication in familiar situations. In contrast, the B1 exam expects more complex sentence structures, independent opinions, and smoother conversation flow.
Two examiners evaluate the performance based on set criteria such as clarity, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. To pass the A2 level, you must achieve at least level A2 overall—even if your written test score differs.
Our expert Olena, the founder of this platform, has supported learners for many years on their path to passing the German test. Together with an international team of teachers and examiners, she develops exercises tailored specifically to the DTZ A2 Speaking Exam.
Her advice:
Many participants say they felt more confident and better prepared thanks to targeted training.
One user commented:
“I was nervous about the speaking test, but the online exercises and role-plays helped me understand exactly what to expect.”
Anna Chin: „Hello, from August to October I prepared for the B1 exam with Olena. As a result, I passed the exam and received my B1 certificate. I would like to say that the training with Olena gave me more knowledge than the courses, because during those months my listening, reading, and writing skills improved noticeably. Speaking, of course, depends on vocabulary, but we practiced dialogues and naturally spoke more together as well.“
Євгенія Мамчур: „I am very satisfied that I found this website one month before my exam – exactly at the time when I was ready to prepare intensively. During this period, I completed almost all the practice tasks in all categories, carefully analyzed my mistakes and read the explanations. And how great was my surprise when about 60% of the tasks in the exam came directly from this site! I was very happy, because I already knew them and even remembered the correct answers for most of them. A big advantage for me was that I could easily translate the tasks and answers into my native language, which significantly improved my understanding. The website is excellent for preparation – I highly recommend it!“
Hanna Boltinova: „Thanks to the preparation with Olena, I successfully passed the B1 exam. The online lessons were interesting, I was motivated to do homework, and developed a real interest in the German language ☺️ Thank you, Olena — I recommend you to everyone!“
