In the written part of the Goethe B1 exam, writing a forum post is one of the possible tasks in the section “Written Expression”. The task is practical: participants are asked to express their opinion on an everyday topic clearly, in a structured, and understandable way – just as they would in a real online forum.
A forum post is a personal response to a question or topic posed by another user online. In the exam, candidates receive a short forum question and are expected to respond with their opinion and personal experiences. They should follow the typical format of such a post: informal, yet structured and complete.
The topics come from everyday life and do not require special knowledge. Often, the task is about personal experiences or opinions on:
A user posts in a forum: “What is your best way to learn German? Do you prefer studying alone or in a group?” – Write a forum post in response.
Hello everyone,
I think learning in a group is better. You can ask questions and practice right away. In my language course, we do a lot of role plays – that helps me a lot. When I learn alone, I only do vocabulary, but it can be boring.
What about you?
Best regards,
Lea
Many learners say that writing forum posts feels easier than writing formal texts. “I often post in online forums – that helped me,” says Nico from Hamburg. Zahra from Bremen adds: “I learned to give simple arguments and express my opinion clearly – that made it easy to write my post quickly.” Other candidates recommend practicing common phrases and expressions beforehand.
Language coach Olena Bazalukova says: “A forum post gives you freedom in writing. The topics are realistic, and the language can be casual – but the structure must be clear and the content complete. With preparation, you can earn a lot of points here, even without perfect grammar.”
Overall, the forum post in the Goethe B1 section “Written Expression” is a great opportunity to show your opinion. With targeted practice using real examples, writing becomes easier and more effective.
Oleg Lion: „I saw this program from my teacher. A great platform – both the navigation and the material are excellent. Many thanks to the developers.“
Євгенія Мамчур: „I am very satisfied that I found this website one month before my exam – exactly at the time when I was ready to prepare intensively. During this period, I completed almost all the practice tasks in all categories, carefully analyzed my mistakes and read the explanations. And how great was my surprise when about 60% of the tasks in the exam came directly from this site! I was very happy, because I already knew them and even remembered the correct answers for most of them. A big advantage for me was that I could easily translate the tasks and answers into my native language, which significantly improved my understanding. The website is excellent for preparation – I highly recommend it!“
Andriy Krivoruchko: „Many thanks to the team for creating such a helpful tool for exam preparation. However, please also pay attention to improvements. After logging in again (the next day), the completed questions are no longer displayed.“
