Preparation for “Request for Information” in B2 Writing

What is this writing task about?

In a formal inquiry, you write a short email or letter to ask for specific details about an offer. This type of task tests your ability to formulate questions clearly, stay polite, and include all relevant points. A clear structure is essential so the reader can understand your concerns without follow-up questions.

Structure in four steps

  1. Greeting and introduction – A polite opening and reference to the announcement.
  2. List of questions – Ask for at least four pieces of information (price, dates, registration, certificate...).
  3. Additional context – Briefly explain why the information is relevant to you.
  4. Closing – Express thanks, give a friendly outlook, sign your name.

Possible topics and sample exercises

  • Language course for professionals: duration, course content, confirmation of participation
  • IT training: software version, learning material, instructor qualifications
  • Volunteering abroad: accommodation, insurance, working hours

Helpful phrases to boost your score

  • “I am interested in ... and would like to ask a few questions.”
  • “Could you please let me know whether ...?”
  • “In addition, I would like to know ...”
  • “Thank you in advance for your reply by ...”

Expert tip from Olena

Olena, the founder of this learning platform, develops every exercise module in collaboration with teachers and examiners from five continents. Her advice: “Before writing, just note keywords – not full sentences. Then write freely. This makes your language sound natural and helps you cover all points without overloading the text.”

Other expert opinions

  • Dr. Rita Weiss (linguist): A well-organized list of questions increases clarity and creates a professional impression.
  • Marcos Silva (business coach): If you give a clear deadline for a response in the closing paragraph, you make it easier for the reader to plan.

Feedback from our course participants

  • “The short sample letters helped me understand the right tone immediately.” – Tanja, project coordinator
  • “The topic cards helped me write more quickly.” – Mehmet, engineer

Compact training task at home

Choose any online offer, write down four questions as keywords, and draft a full request in 15 minutes. Then check: Are all questions clear? Is the text under 200 words? This way, you practice vocabulary and time management for the exam.

If you write with structure, use relevant examples, and apply polite phrases, you’ll handle the “Request for Information” task confidently – an important element for a successful B2 writing exam.
