The Goethe A1 writing exam is a key component of the language certificate “Start Deutsch 1”. It is aimed at people who need to prove their basic German skills – for example, for family reunification, integration courses, or initial residence permits in Germany.
This part of the exam tests whether you are able to write simple and correct messages in everyday situations – such as letters, emails, or notes. Your writing should be both grammatically correct and content-complete.
With this exam, you show that you can apply basic forms of written communication in German. This is especially important if you plan to live in a German-speaking country: Whether it's an email to a school, a note to your neighbors, or a short excuse – writing is part of daily life.
The exam consists of three parts and lasts about 20 minutes:
Your text will be evaluated based on the following aspects:
The writing section shows whether you can not only understand German but also use it effectively. With good preparation, you can write more confidently and increase your chances of success.
Start practicing early. Mistakes at the beginning are normal. With regular writing practice, guided tasks, and clear examples, you can improve step by step. On our website, you will find plenty of exercises, sample topics, and helpful explanations.
cdcam: „It's an amazing website, the owner did very good job, I highly recommend for everyone preparing for almost any German exam.“
Jewgenija Mamchur: „I am very glad that I found this website one month before my exam — exactly when I was ready to prepare seriously. During this time, I completed almost all exercises in every category, carefully analyzed my mistakes, and read the explanations. And how surprised I was when about 60% of the exam tasks came directly from this site! I was happy because I already knew them and even remembered most of the correct answers. A big advantage for me was that I could easily translate the tasks and answers into my native language, which made understanding much easier. This website is perfect for preparation — highly recommended!“
Vika Boyarshinova: „Very good and practical website. There are plenty of materials for exam preparation. I studied with Olena in online lessons, and it really helped me pass the exam and get the B1 certificate. I would say it played a key role. Olena is one of the few who truly cares about us – she genuinely helps with her knowledge and advice. She explains even the most difficult grammar in simple words, and everything becomes clear.“
