Additional Information on the B2 Discussion in the Speaking Exam

What is this section about?

In the dialogue section of the B2 exam, you will speak with a partner about a current topic. The exchange lasts only a few minutes and simulates a situation similar to those in professional or social contexts. The goal is to weigh opinions together, ask brief questions, and reach a small decision by the end.

Recommended structure

  1. Warm-up – greeting, opening question, short reference to the situation.
  2. Clarifying positions – express your own view and involve your partner.
  3. Weighing options – name pros and cons of both sides, ask for an example.
  4. Finding common ground – suggest a compromise or next steps.

Possible topic ideas

  • Introducing a four-day work week in a company
  • Using car sharing in big cities
  • Fruits or sweets in the office kitchen
  • Virtual vs. in-person meetings

Common evaluation criteria

  • Coherence of arguments
  • Response to spontaneous questions
  • Balance of speaking contributions
  • Clarity of the closing statement

Useful phrases

  • "What’s your view on …?"
  • "One aspect we should also consider is …"
  • "I see your point, but perhaps …"
  • "Let’s summarize what we’ve agreed on."

Short practice at home

Choose two topics, write down three key points for each, and discuss them aloud in front of a mirror. Pay attention to pauses, eye direction, and a friendly tone. Repeat the exercise for three consecutive evenings to build routine.

A successful discussion happens when you listen actively, share structured thoughts, and use flexible phrases. Regular preparation with short scenarios sharpens your language instinct and builds confidence for the German speaking exam.

Ebru Bingöl: „I strongly recommend it. You don’t need to buy an expensive course. The best preparation is with BO.“

Frank Lee: „It's a helpful website with diverse exercises and preparation tools that support exam success.“

Vika Boyarshinova: „Very good and practical website. There are plenty of materials for exam preparation. I studied with Olena in online lessons, and it really helped me pass the exam and get the B1 certificate. I would say it played a key role. Olena is one of the few who truly cares about us – she genuinely helps with her knowledge and advice. She explains even the most difficult grammar in simple words, and everything becomes clear.“
